The same plates that you see at Christopher’s Restaurant from chef Christopher Gross. A collaboration design between chef Christopher Gross and Blue Door Ceramics. Chef Christopher Gross designed the bunny and the pig himself! If you follow him on social media you will see him wishing happy birthday through his cute sketches.
This collaboration was a celebration of creative trust, transforming a chef’s private sketch into functional art. It reflects a shared belief that great design begins with meaning, and that even the smallest details can tell a larger story.
The collaboration began with a conversation about storytelling and how this plate could be an extension of the chef’s playful spirit.Chef shared a personal sketch of a rabbit, a whimsical drawing he had carried with him for years and even drew me a birthday card using it. It captured both his playful spirit and culinary art, and it became the centerpiece of inspiration for his custom show plate.
Translating the hand-drawn rabbit into a design element required both sensitivity and technique. The original sketch was digitized, the and then transferred into the plate using a special printer for ceramics that uses oxides that allowed the drawing to sit slightly raised under a translucent glaze.
The plate itself was designed with understated elegance. The form is modern yet timeless, with a gently sloped rim that frames the drawing like a canvas. Every decision was made in dialogue with the chef, after many prototypes, glaze finishes, and clay bodies. People's reaction is that they wanted to buy the plate and take home with them!
Stoneware pottery, high fired and very resistant and durable. They are glazed in off-white silky glaze . All my glazes are lead-free and non-toxic. Ceramic dinner plates are a perfect wedding gift and a great start for you kitchen remodel. They have a great vibe, and I hope you LOVE them!!
Each plate is different and they have a lace imprint on the bottom. Each piece is handmade and glazed one by one, so one piece is not like the other! The borders are intentionally irregular and you will not find a plate that is a perfect circle, but they are very durable and I hope someone finds them in 5000 years intact!
They are modern looking and chic. They are food safe, dishwasher and microwave safe. They make a great gift as well. All signed in the back. It's a luxury and a pleasure to eat from a handmade plate!
